I'd heard that it was a bit of a nightmare but nothing quite prepared me for a form which looks more like a book! And the guidance notes that I got from Cerebra are 60+ pages long! I'll be at it forever.
And just how are you supposed to get all the 'evidence' you need to provide into those piddling little boxes? I'm sure they do that on purpose so that you don't have enough room, you mess up the form and they don't have to award you anything!
They're going to get a novel from me!!

ReplyDeleteSomeone advised me to fill it in on the worst kind of day when everything's a struggle and try not to feel disloyal to your child's brave efforts when you catalogue their failures.

Oh no! It's definitely worth finding out if your local area has a benefits help service, we had someone come out to help me fill in the form because it is pretty intimidating!

ReplyDeleteOh no. I would advise to write small and neat to make the best use of the small boxes. It's just one of those things, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteI have the same thing going on with job applications, a HIGE long question and a teeny tiny box for the answer. Erm....I think not! lol

It's horrid isn't it? Especially having to think of all the worst parts about living with our lil ones, when we're trying to focus on the positives. Do NOT hold back though, you really need to push just how much help he needs on a day to day basis. *hugs* x
ReplyDeleteNightmare! I got a very good guide to DLA from The National Autistic Society, but I still haven't made the application. That's because I am a bit lazy... It is true that you have to use the absolute worse day/worst case scenario though, which completely goes against the grain - but good luck! xx

ReplyDeleteMy tip probably comes to late, but the best thing anyone ever told me to to was photocopy the filled out form before you send it in. That way you have a record of what you have put down, so you don't forget to include anything when it comes to the renewal. As I once said to a representative on the DLA Helpline, 'what you have to remember is what we go through on a day to day basis is normal family life for us.'
In regards to the ,that will become easier and eaiser to source as your child is offered the help that receiving DLA opens up to you.
